Head injuries may cause external and internal damage: external damage to the skull and internal damage to the brain. An external injury such a skull fracture will often be accompanied by injury to the brain. Even if no external injury occurs, the brain can be injured. A concussion, for instance, can lead to memory loss, dizziness, and nausea. A person with a head injury can also suffer cognitive impairment as well headaches.
