Hearing Loss – Noise Exposure

By Mark Miller

Does your spouse tell you to turn down the volume on the TV?  Do you only catch bits and pieces of table conversation in a crowded restaurant?  Are you frustrated trying to lipread and then nodding and smiling because you can’t decipher the words?

As we age, our hearing diminishes.  For some of us, the decline in our hearing is precipitous.  Frequently, significant hearing loss is attributable to noise exposure at work.  This type of hearing loss can only be improved by using hearing aids.  Hearing aids and the batteries that power them can be very expensive. Often, hearing aids and batteries are not covered by health insurance.

So, what do you do?

If you worked in a noisy environment for many years and have hearing loss as a result, you may have workers’ compensation claim for occupational hearing loss.  You can still make a claim even if you are retired.  If the claim is successful, you will likely be entitled to money benefits, periodic hearing tests, hearing aids, and batteries. Contact us for a free consultation to determine if the extent of your hearing loss (from hearing test results) meets the threshold established by the Workers’ Compensation Commission.  Call 410-687-7878 to schedule an appointment to meet with an experienced attorney today.
